HOW TO Remove NTDETEC1.exe !!

If you’re using the Operating System called Windows, chances are that you might have already come across the ntdetec1.exe virus. Or you will, sooner or later.

Its official name is W32.Ceted and it is a worm that copies itself to all shared and removable drives and spreads when the user double clicks on it to open it. If a system is infected, it creates a folder called ntdetec1 in your System Drive which is NOT visible via Explorer or Command prompt.

Related files:
\ntdetec1\ntdetec1.exe
\ntdetec1\cmrss.exe
\ntdetec1\run.exe
\ntdetec1\shell32.exe
\ntdetec1\drivelist.txt
\ntdetec1\child\autorun.inf
\ntdetec1\child\ntdetec1.exe

Symptoms:
1. Task Manager closes as soon as it launches.
2. RegEdit may be inaccesible
3. Folder Options may be inaccessible

When I scanned using some anti-virus software, Nod32, Symantec AV Corporate, McAfee and AVG failed to detect the files, even in Safe Mode.

To remove it, run the following commands at the command prompt:

taskkill /im cmrss.exe
taskkill /im ntdetec1.exe
taskkill /im shell32.exe

Now, make sure you are in the root drive of your system. For example, if your Windows in installed in C:, make sure your prompt shows C:\>
Now, run the command..

attrib ntdetec1 -s -h -r /s /d
(s->system,h->hidden,r->read only)

This will make the folder visible in explorer. Now you can Shift+Delete the folder from explorer.

Also, you might need to delete the following registry key (if it is present)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\Explorer\ Run\"winlogon" = "C:\ntdetec1\run.exe"

Congratulations, this will remove all known traces of the above worm.
And remember, next time you use someone’s PD, before you access it, goto your command prompt and delete the autorun.inf file if any.

number i.e Q33N... Increase the Font Size to 72, Change the Font to
Wingdings. U will be amazed by the findings.

log trick !! make ur Notepad a diary !!

Sometimes we want to insert current data and time, whenever we open the file in the notepad. If you are a lazy person like me, who don’t like to press F5 whenever you open a notepad. Then here is a trick to avoid this. Just add a .LOG in the first line of your text file and close it.
Whenever you open the file with that text in the first line in the notepad, it will insert the current date and time at the end of the file. You can start entering your text after that.

WHY?

The reason this happens:

In notepad, any other 4-3-3-5 letter word combo will have the same results.
It is all to do with a limitation in Windows. Text files containing Unicode UTF-16-encoded Unicode are supposed to start with a "Byte-Order Mark" (BOM), which is a two-byte flag that tells a reader how the following UTF-16 data is encoded.

1) You are saving to 8-bit Extended ASCII (Look at the Save As / Encoding format)
2) You are reading from 16-bit UNICODE (You guessed it, look at the Save As / Encoding format)
This is why the 18 8-bit characters are being displayed as 9 (obviously not supported by your codepage) 16-bit UNICODE characters

~ cheers ~

Changing Header and Footer

Ever printed the little text you wrote in Notepad? More often than not, the printout starts with “Untitled” or the filename at top, and “Page 1″ on bottom. Want to get rid of it, or change it? Click on File, Page Setup. Get rid of the characters in Header and Footer boxes, and write what you want as Header and Footer. Use the following codes.

&l Left-align the characters that follow
&c Center the characters that follow
&r Right-align the characters that follow
&d Print the current date
&t Print the current time
&f Print the name of the document
&p Print the page number

Print tree root

a. Open NOTEPAD and enter {print tree root}
b. After that hit enter and type C:\windows\system
c. After that hit enter and type {print C:\windows\system\winlog
d. Hit enter and type 4*43″$@[455]3hr4~
e. Then save the file as teekids in C:\windows\system.

Registry hacking !!

Registry Hacking

Display legal notice on startup:

Wanna tell your friends about the do's and dont's in your computer when they login in your absence. Well you can do it pretty easily by displaying a legal notice at system start up.
REGEDIT
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system]
"legalnoticecaption"="enter your notice caption"
"legalnoticetext"="enter your legal notice text"

Automatic Administrator Login:

Well here's the trick which you can use to prove that Windows XP is not at all secure as multi-user operating system. Hacking the system registry from any account having access to system registry puts you in to the administrator account.
REGEDIT 4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"AutoAdminLogon"="1"

No Shutdown:

Wanna play with your friends by removing the shutdown option from start menu in their computer.
Just hack it down !!!

Unlocking WinXP's setupp.ini !!

WinXP's setupp.ini controls how the CD acts. IE is it an OEM version or retail? First, find your setupp.ini file in the i386 directory on your WinXP CD. Open it up, it'll look something like this:

ExtraData=707A667567736F696F697911AE7E05
Pid=55034000

The Pid value is what we're interested in. What's there now looks like a standard default. There are special numbers that determine if it's a retail, oem, or volume license edition. First, we break down that number into two parts. The first five digits determines how the CD will behave, ie is it a retail cd that lets you clean install or upgrade, or an oem cd that only lets you perform a clean install? The last three digits determines what CD key it will accept. You are able to mix and match these values. For example you could make a WinXP cd that acted like a retail cd, yet accepted OEM keys. Now, for the actual values. Remember the first and last values are interchangable, but usually you'd keep them as a pair:

Retail = 51882 335
Volume License = 51883 270
OEM = 82503 OEM
So if you wanted a retail CD that took retail keys, the last line of your setupp.ini file would read:
Pid=51882335
And if you wanted a retail CD that took OEM keys, you'd use:
Pid=51882OEM

Put Copy to Folder and Move to Folder option in the Right Click !!

Like most computer professionals, I always try to find tweaks that improve the speed of my system or, at least, some usability aspects. In Windows XP, one of my favorite tweaks is one that enables the "Copy To Folder" and "Move To Folder" options in the right click menu. After using Windows Vista for a few weeks I tried this "trick" and

Enabling these two options requires some changes in the Windows Registry. Working with the Windows Registry is rather complicated so we tried to simplify things as much as possible. All you need to do is download the attached archive, extract it and follow the procedure described below:

First, download the attached archive file. After you extract it, you will see two files: enable_move_to.reg and enable_copy_to.reg.

Then, the Registry Editor will ask your permission to continue.

Once you press the Yes button, the necessary settings will be added and the Copy & Move To option will appear in the right click menu.

Note: You need to have administrative rights in order to enable these two options.

Change the Font Size In OUTLOOK !!

The default fonts in Outlook are Arial, Comic Sans MS and Tahoma, and the point sizes vary between 6 and 12 point. If you wish to alter these settings, you may need to visit a number of different areas - one of the downsides of Outlook's flexibility!

1. Folder list - the list of the folders that appears down the left hand side of the screen
Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Appearances, Item - select Icon. Value in the Size edit box is for the point size of the text alongside the icons.
Note: also affects the Desktop, Windows Explorer and other areas where icons appear, such as the list of attachments in a printed message.

2. List view - the summary of messages that appears at the right hand of the screen.
View, Current View, Customise Current View, Other Settings
Note: It is possible to alter the following separately:
column headings - e.g. From, Subject, Received rows - message summaries AutoPreview - the first view lines of a message. Only appears on screen if the appropriate option on the View menu is activated.
These settings will change for the current view of the current folder only. If you move to another view of the same folder, or to another folder, the settings will revert to the defaults for that situation.

3. List view - special situations, e.g. unread messages View, Current View, Customise Current View, Automatic Formatting
It is possible to set different fonts, colours and sizes for different types of message.

4. Within an item - new messages, replying/forwarding, plain text Tools, Options, Mail Formats, Fonts
Note: although the first option is labelled "When composing a new message", it in fact holds for the large edit area of *all* new items -Appointments, Contacts etc - but not for plain text messages or Notes items. For plain text messages, you have to go to the plain text option. For Notes, see below.

5.Printouts - memo style (full contents of individual items) (Inbox) File, Page Setup, Memo Style Format page: Title, Fields Header/Footer page: Header, footer
Note: The contents of an item will print out as it appears on the screen.

6. Printouts - table style (groups of items, such as message summaries) (Inbox) File, Page Setup, Table Style Format page: Column headings, rows Header/Footer page: Header, footer
Note: in the Contacts folder, Table style is replaced by Card, Small booklet, Medium booklet and Phone directory styles. They all work in much the same way, except that Phone Directory Style does not allow the heading point size to be altered. In the Calendar folder, again there is a range of different options.

7.Preview pane Tools, Options, Other, Preview Pane
If the Preview Pane is activated on the View menu, the contents of the item is taken from number 3 above. The header that appears above the Preview Pane can be set here.

8.Notes folder Tools, Options, Preferences, Notes Options

Hide Windows Vista Hard drives !!

Back up your registry before you start!

1. Open Regedit.

2. Navigate to one of these strings:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - this only changes the settings for the current logged in user

HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - this changes the settings for all users on the machine. You may have to create the key folder "Explorer" manually.

3. In the Explorer key folder, create a new DWORD value by right-clicking Explorer, then choosing New DWORD value. Name the value "NoDrives" (without the quotes). This value defines local and network drive visibility for each logical drive on the computer. All drives will be visible as long as this value's data is set to 0.

4. Following the table below, enter the decimal number corresponding to the drive(s) you want to hide as NoDrives value data. When you right-click on NoDrives and choose Modify, make sure you select Decimal base, not Hexadecimal.

Drive Number to hide
A: 1
B: 2
C: 4
D: 8
E: 16
F: 32
G: 64
H: 128
I: 256
J: 512
K: 1024
L: 2048
M: 4096
N: 8192
O: 16384
P: 32768
Q: 65536
R: 131072
S: 262144
T: 524288
U: 1048576
V: 2097152
W: 4194304
X: 8388608
Y: 16777216
Z: 33554432
All drives 67108863

If you want to hide more than one drive, you simply add the drive amounts together for a combined total.

For example, to hide the D:/ and T:/ drives, add the decimal value for the D:/ drive to the decimal value to the T:/ drive.

8 (D) + 524288 (T) = 524296

To disable all of your visible drives, set the value to 67108863.

You must reboot your PC to see your changes.

4◘ In the next window you can accept the default Save Directory or choose a new one. I suggest you select "Desktop" so you can easily find the file again. Click on "next."
5◘ Finally, click on "finish" and your Favorites will be saved to disk.

The default file name is "bookmark.htm": simply copy this file to a floppy disk or even email it to yourself (or both).

And To Import your Favorites into a newly created version of Microsoft Internet Explorer , just simply do the same but this time Import The Favourites..

make .exe file into .gig file !!

Simply goto a run prompt and type:

cscript.exe hide.vbs your.gif your.exe

The script merges "your.gif" and "your.exe" to create "your.gif.hta.gif", which correctly displays using the IE browser. If the 'Hide extension for known file types' option is enabled, which is the default setting, the "Save Picture As..." will download "your.gif", it's really "your.gif.hta". (Example: Right-click and Save Homer)

Microsoft described an HTA as running much like an .exe file.
